How To Use A USB Hub And Access Hard Drives With AirPort Extreme

The AirPort Extreme has a USB port through which you can access a range of compatible USB devices, including printers, scanners, and external hard drives. Because the AirPort Extreme has only one USB port, you must use a USB hub if you want to connect multiple USB-compatible devices. To function properly, the USB hub must have its own power supply; it cannot be powered by the bus.

Instructions

1.      Connect the USB hub to the "USB" port on the back of the AirPort Extreme using the USB cable of the hub.

2.      Plug the power of the USB hub cable into a power outlet. Turn on the USB hub if it has its own power button.

3.      Connect your devices to the USB hub and turn them on.

4.      Launch the AirPort Utility on your computer. The AirPort Utility is located in the Mac and Computer Applications folder in the Major Programs directory on Windows computers. If you do not have an AirPort installed on your computer, download and install it.

5.      Select your AirPort Extreme device in the AirPort application and click "Continue."

6.      Follow the on-screen instructions to create a new wireless connection with the devices connected to your Photos hub.
